1915 Historic School
The historic school building was voted into being in August of 1915 and built. It was modified in 1921 and 1936. It now has the honor of being on both the State and Federal Heritage Registers.
The first school in Rainier was built in the early 1880's and was used only three months of the year. The second was built in 1896 in what is now the Historic Lutheran Church, also on the State Heritage Register. In 1902 and later in 1909 buildings were erected on the present site but both were destroyed by fire prior to the building of the present historic building . The school hosts four large class rooms and a full basement and is slated for restoration to become the "LifeLong Learning Center" by the Rainier Historical Society.
When finished the LifeLong Learning Center will support a Museum, Library (now open), Art Gallery, Food and Clothing Bank (now open), Thrift Store to support the building (now open), a Youth Center and Meeting Rooms.
The Rainier Historical Society is looking for both monetary and product donations as well as donations of time from the Rainier citizens and those interested in the historic preservation of this wonderful 95 year old building.
