The historic Rainier School/Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is located on the corner of Olympia and Minnesota streets on the Northwestern edge of the city of Rainier. This building was constructed in 1896 and served as the second school building, (the first being constructed in the early 1880s and used only 3 months of the year.) It was used later as the Lutheran church. This building was constructed by the Gehrke brothers, Albert, Theodore and Paul, and neighbors, early settlers in Rainier, and in the year 2007 it is the first of only two historic structures in the City of Rainier on the state heritage register.
