High school students of the Rainier High School are required to complete 100 community service hours before they graduate. WE CAN HELP!!!
Want to learn a trade or two? Come work with us and gain some "hands on" knowledge along with your volunteer hours. Some of you will pick it up quick enough to be hirable by outsiders who need your skills.
We would like to teach you some skills, business or service. So what are your plans for week ends? This summer?
YOU can help to renovate the historic schoolhouse to get her ready for Art, Library, Museum and meeting rooms. Have you donated time to feed the hungry? Given time to renovate a library? Or just learned some housekeeping or salesperson skills (in the thrift store)? Impress your parents, impress your friends, impress yourself ! Learn how to renovate a real structure or communicate with sales skills so that you may someday do your own home or develop your skill to be employed.
This is not a spectator sport! You will be participating to get your volunteer hours for graduation. Bring your friends and perform some hand-on learning activities. Activities such as: Plumbing, Basic carpentry, Woodworking, Painting and Refinishing. --- Not interested in carpentry or the trades? How about office management and learning how to research on how to run a non-profit business? Actual business skills would be yours. There are over 10 business areas needing a manager and support. Learn to start a business, meet your city leaders, make presentations, run a Townhall Public Forum (of course with help from your staff)! Design a business strategy and have a committee who takes you there from the beginning to end. Start your own business!
Interested in a workshop? Let us know! --- Learn fundraising and solicitation. Learn business strategies and how to design and conduct surveys. How to take those surveys and create a statistical report for actual submission. --- Not into business? Meet those who work in the thriftshop, collect articles for the thriftstore, take donations help with sales. Start a babysitting club, a phone solicitation club, go door to door and meet the community inviting them to come see the new Lifelong Learning Center (LLC). Attend a Yoga class or a martial arts class, start a long distance marathon club, etc.
Who's going to be in charge of music? We have Townhall Public Forums which need entertainment. The halls of the LLC need some tunes pouring out of her windows! Have a band, need a place to practice? Put in your hours volunteering and you earn rehearsal time in the center.
The sky's the limit, the possibilities are endless! You are setting the standard for the future teens of America! :0)
This is your LLC! Come shape her borders and make the Old Historic Schoolhouse come back to life with your boundless energy and creative imaginations!
Contact us through this web site or come by the historic school any Wednesday through Saturday 10 to 4 and talk to the staff at the Thrift Store.
