Another year is here and we are ready to start planning the 2010 reunion. This year the second Saturday/Sunday weekend doesn't happen together so we opted to stay with the second Sunday that has seen 31 celebrations in the Sportsmen's hall. So the celebration weekend will be held on the second Sunday which is first Saturday in 2010. It happens to be the 32nd Sunday community gathering and celebration weekend. Even though this is city wide reunion, (you have lived here or visited here or just like our town reunion) we do honor graduating classes also. The honored classes who graduated from Rainier will be the classes of 35 (75 years), 60 (50 years), 85 (25 years), 2000 (10 year) and of course all the classes ending in 0.
What do we do on Celebration Weekend? Well . . .
On Saturday evening, August 8th, 2009 the celebration started with gathering at the historic school to see what has been happenng. Topping the list was the restoration of windows etc., work in progress on the soon to be library floor and some art in the gallery. Proceeding on the the Middle School Kitchen found most of the class of 1959 gathering at the dinner along with their Senior Advisor Jack Wright. Other classes having larger attendances were the class of 1979 and the class of 1999. Many others, including retired teacher, Mr. Burton Backman, gathered together to reminisce and enjoy a menu of Barbeque pork spare ribs and some excellent salmon prepared by Pastor Douglas and Trina Lee of the Rainier Chapel. If you missed the dinner remember to put this years first Saturday in August, the 7th, on your calendar.
Sunday, the 9th, brought the usual noon pot luck at the Sportsman's Club. This is the community gathering celebration which is a chance for all citizens of Rainier and surrounding area, new and old, to get together and get to know one another. It was not just for the older folks! We saw many from the younger generations enjoy a good time also. The 2009 gathering enjoyed chicken and salads, oh . . . and desserts galore . . . many tasty dishes. They started arriving at about 10:30 a.m. but the line to sign in was long at noon. Do put this years second Sunday in August, it's the 8th, on your calendar.
See you there!
